Nursing home staff at a home in Michigan, USA are under fire after an old woman they were supposed to be caring for was admitted to hospital with a vagina full of maggots.
The old woman had been complaining of an “itching and burning” around her catheter, the itchy woman refused to take showers complaining of a pain in her hip. Care workers simply made a half-arsed attempt at bed baths until a qualified nurse was eventually asked to examine her.
“During one instance of personal care being provided, staff noticed something of concern and brought it to the attention of a nurse.” Mike Pemble, director of the Bureau of Healthy Systems of LARA, explained.
“Upon closer examination of the vaginal area, maggots were found to be infesting in and around the catheter area.”
